Zelenskyy States Country's Survival Depends on Partners
Kyiv's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a latest interview that Ukraine's existence depended on receiving more funds from allies.
“I hope, God bless, they will approve the necessary funding,” he stated to reporters. If not, “We will have to find another solution, it’s a question of our surviving. For this reason we need it very much. And I count on partners.”
EU Commission Pushes for €140 Billion Reparations Loan
The European Commission continues to aim to persuade member states – including Belgium, that is currently blocking the plan due to juridical concerns – to proceed with a €140 billion financial compensation using Moscow's immobilized funds.
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen emphasized today that it would be “the most effective way to support Kyiv's military and national finances.”
Decision Delayed Until Year-End Meeting
A definitive resolution on the matter has been postponed till the EU leaders’s summit in the last month, with the funding required at the start of the coming year.
Discussions Occur Amid Bribery Allegations in Ukraine
But the talks come at a difficult time for Kyiv, as Zelenskyy was forced to contain growing public outrage in the country regarding a bribery incident in the energy sector, dismissing two ministers allegedly involved in participating in a large-scale corruption network.
Denmark's finance leader Stephanie Lose was questioned on her response to the scandal, and insisted that there was determination to keep aiding Ukraine.
“Naturally, The country will have to continuously work with reforms, reinforcing all parts of the nation [and] including fighting graft … but it is clear that Europe stands firmly behind Ukraine,” she said.
Additional European Events Monitored
Separately, observers will be keeping an eye on Holland where the parliament convenes to discuss possible directions in the coalition talks, the Italy-Albania consultations in the Italian capital offering the latest chance to witness the brilliant Meloni-Rama dynamics, and a number of high-level meetings throughout the continent, including the Alliance's the secretary general's visit to a German airbase.
Much to report on.
