Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
