Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead any other side in England. So that means in case it's my former club...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently a very good mood around the place. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact for the team. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. Not a single person might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
