Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
