Supporters Call for Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are urging that a man who leaped a barricade and grabbed the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records revealed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed features recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is evidently a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further response on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual interpretation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, winning several for best costume and set decoration.
