This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
