Vehicles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Officers stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved quickly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
